The most technically ambitious multichain design in the sector, with shared security that genuinely works and governance that genuinely devolved power. It has also spent years solving problems the market decided it did not have.
Cosmos Hub (ATOM)
The Cosmos SDK and IBC are among the most successful pieces of infrastructure ever shipped in this industry. The Hub itself, and the token that represents it, have captured almost none of that success.
NEAR Protocol (NEAR)
The best consumer-facing account model of any Layer 1, now paired with chain abstraction that lets a single NEAR account control assets on other chains. Excellent engineering and a real usability lead, still waiting on the application that makes it matter.
Sui (SUI)
The object-centric data model is the most genuinely novel Layer 1 design shipped in years, and it delivers real advantages in parallelism, safety and user experience. The token's distribution to insiders is the reason this is not a higher score.
Aptos (APT)
Serious engineering from the other half of the Diem team, with Block-STM parallel execution that works exactly as advertised. It has struggled to explain why an application should choose it over its closest sibling.
TON (TON)
The only Layer 1 with a distribution channel of a billion existing users built into its front door. Extraordinary reach, unusual architecture, and a dependency on one private messaging company that no amount of decentralisation talk resolves.
Sei (SEI)
A trading-optimised chain that has already rebuilt itself twice in pursuit of relevance, arriving at a fast parallel EVM with genuinely impressive latency. The engineering is real; the reason to use this chain instead of the incumbents is not yet.
Algorand (ALGO)
Cryptographically elegant, instantly final, never forked and never halted, with genuine government and institutional deployments. Also one of the clearest demonstrations that technical correctness and academic pedigree do not produce an ecosystem on their own.
